The perfect wedding venue is not simply the one that looks beautiful on Instagram. It is the venue that works beautifully for your entire celebration.
Before recommending a property, we consider the number of guests, ceremony and dinner spaces, accommodation, accessibility, catering options, furniture and equipment, music restrictions, curfew, technical requirements and, importantly, the possibility of creating an elegant Plan B in case of rain.
We also look carefully at what the venue rental actually includes. A château that initially appears less expensive can ultimately cost considerably more once furniture, catering equipment, security, transportation, technical production and additional rentals are added.
This is why comparing wedding venues based only on their rental price can be misleading. The overall wedding budget and the experience the venue allows us to create are far more important.
Look Beyond the Venue Rental Price .
One of the most common mistakes when choosing a wedding venue in France is looking only at the initial rental price. In reality, two venues with similar rental fees can lead to very different final wedding budgets.
Some venues offer a dry hire, meaning that almost everything must be brought in separately: tables, chairs, tableware, catering equipment, lighting, sound, security and sometimes even additional power or kitchen facilities. Others provide a more complete infrastructure or work with an in-house caterer.
Accommodation is another important consideration. A beautiful château without bedrooms may require hotels, guest transportation and additional logistics, while another property may allow some or all of your guests to stay on site.

A French château offers something completely different: privacy, beautiful gardens, historic architecture and the possibility of creating an immersive celebration away from the city. Some properties can host guests on site, while others are purely event venues and require separate accommodation and transportation.
Destination estates in regions such as Provence, Champagne, the Loire Valley or the French Riviera can be particularly suited to multi-day weddings, allowing couples to create an entire wedding weekend around their guests.
There is no universally “best” wedding venue. The right choice is the one that works for your vision, your guests, your priorities and your overall budget.
Always Have an Elegant Plan B
When couples fall in love with a French venue, it is often because of its gardens, terraces or spectacular outdoor ceremony setting. But one of the first questions we ask is very simple: what happens if it rains?
A beautiful Plan B should never feel like a disappointing alternative. Ideally, the venue should offer an indoor space that can be designed with the same attention to detail as the outdoor celebration.
We consider the capacity of the indoor spaces, guest circulation, ceremony and cocktail alternatives, furniture changes and the time required to move an event indoors if the weather changes.
In France, weather can never be guaranteed—even during summer. A strong wedding plan therefore considers both scenarios from the very beginning.
Think About the Wedding Before Choosing the Venue
One lesson I have learned after years of planning destination weddings is that couples sometimes choose their venue too quickly.
They fall in love with a photograph, a façade or a magnificent garden and sign the contract before understanding exactly how their wedding will work there.
Before making a final decision, I prefer to imagine the entire celebration: Where will the ceremony take place? Where will guests have cocktails? Is there enough space for dinner and dancing? Where will the band or DJ be installed? How will suppliers access the property? What happens if it rains? And where will everyone stay at the end of the evening?
When all of these questions have good answers, we know that we are not simply looking at a beautiful property—we are looking at a venue capable of hosting a beautiful wedding.
A Personal Note from Inga
One of the most important pieces of advice I give my couples is: do not rush to sign a venue simply because you are afraid of losing the date.
Over the years, I have reviewed many venue proposals and contracts, and sometimes the most important information is not visible in the beautiful brochure. A rental price can look attractive until we add furniture, catering, accommodation, transportation, technical production or mandatory suppliers.
I always prefer to understand the complete picture first. Sometimes a more expensive venue ultimately offers better value because much more is included. In other situations, a dry-hire château gives us greater creative freedom and is exactly what the couple needs.
My role is not to choose the most expensive venue. It is to help my clients choose the right one—and to understand exactly what they are committing to before they sign.

You should also understand what happens in case of bad weather and whether the venue has a suitable indoor alternative.
Do we really need a Plan B for a summer wedding in France?
Yes. Even during the summer months, weather cannot be guaranteed.
A Plan B should be considered from the beginning rather than treated as an emergency solution. Ideally, your venue should offer an indoor alternative that can accommodate your guests comfortably and still create the atmosphere and level of design you originally imagined.
How far in advance should we book a wedding venue in France?
For sought-after venues and popular wedding dates, we recommend beginning the venue search approximately 12 to 18 months in advance. For particularly exclusive properties, large destination weddings or multi-day celebrations, beginning earlier can provide a greater choice of dates and suppliers.
However, beautiful weddings can also be organised within shorter timelines when the couple is flexible about the venue and date.
